The Gables LBI Porch Dining

Featured in the Asbury Park Press on August 31, 2015

A friend of mine took me to dinner at The Gables in Beach Haven on Friday.

What a treat!

The last several restaurants I’ve been to, both on the Island and the mainland, though the food was good, were so noisy it made the experience unpleasant. One in particular, on LBI, was so cacophonous, people were practically shouting over each other so they could carry on a conversation with friends on the other side of their tables.

One would think that restaurant owners would be aware of that and put some sort of sound absorbing material, at least on their ceilings. Suffice it to say that I will not return to the noisiest of those places, no matter what they are serving.

The Gables is special to me because my family owned it when it was a guest house, called the Green Gables, and Mom was arguably the first to turn it into a bed and breakfast. The Saint Rita Hotel had been serving breakfast for a lot longer, but it’s a hotel (even though it looks like a B&B).
